Islam is a monotheistic religion founded by the Prophet Muhammad in the 7th century CE in the Arabian Peninsula. It is based on the belief in one God (Allah), who is considered to be the creator and sustainer of the universe, and the final authority of all moral and ethical values. Muslims believe that Muhammad is the last prophet and messenger of God, and that his teachings are contained in the holy book of Islam, the Quran.
